SENIORS IN SYMPHONY is a program for nursing home residents to provide relaxation, decrease stress, and bring a more positive state of mind. Persons with dementia, among other symptoms, often suffer from aphasia and amnesia, which makes verbal communication very difficult, sometimes confusing, and often anxiety provoking. Singing together can be a way of communicating without confronting the various deficits that a person constantly faces. Singing is a source of stimulation and interaction, an alternative method of communication, and promotes engagement in an activity, as well as interaction with another human being. Singing familiar songs with seniors will provide a way to: • Contain and express inner feelings; • Interact with another person; • Help memory; • Tap into memories and emotions.
